A couple weeks ago reports started surfacing domestic goats and small pets were disappearing from a residence and the area on the Cedar Street/Main Street extension.
After a bit of investigation it was surmised at the time that the goats were dinner for a cougar prowling the area around Pioneer Park. Residents contacted the Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, who in turn alerted the Wildlife Service who placed a lion trap.
The cougar has not returned to the trap, according to Jerry Brown of Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
But last Thursday, a young cougar was shot on Shaunessy Hill by a resident there concerned about having a cat hanging around his horses. It has not been confirmed that the shot cougar and the cat suspected of stealing the goats are one and the same, but Fish, Wildlife and Parks says it is likely.
Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Sergeant, John Obst, could not be reached for the specifics about the cougar. ______________________________
