St. John’s Hospital to offer free hearing screenings
by St. John’s Lutheran Hospital
August 26, 2009
Presbycusis, or hearing loss associated with aging, is a common condition. It is estimated that one-quarter of all Americans between the ages of 65 and 75 suffer some degree of hearing loss, and that number increases to three quarters for those of us over 75.
You don’t have to live in a world of quieter, less distinct sounds. You and your doctor or certified audiologist can address your hearing loss by taking steps to improve what you hear. The first of which is a hearing screening to determine if you have significant hearing loss.
St. John’s Lutheran Hospital will be offering free hearing screenings September 21st through the 25th to celebrate National Rehabilitation Awareness Week. A licensed speech-language pathologist will administer the hearing screenings using a portable audiometer. If an individual does not pass a hearing screening, then further testing by a certified audiologist will be recommended. Passing a hearing screening indicates that there is not a significant hearing loss present. To schedule a hearing screening, please contact the St. John’s Lutheran Hospital Rehabilitation Services Department at (406) 293-0154 to make an appointment.
