A former Troy woman who received a probationary sentence after providing the narcotics that sent her 14-year-old granddaughter to the hospital with an overdose in 2007 has been arrested again and charged with selling drugs along with her 18-year-old grandson.

Dorthy Marie Schopp, 68, and Travis Robert Schopp have been charged with distribution of dangerous drugs and felony drug possession. Travis Schopp is also charged with possession of dangerous drugs with intent to distribute and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Travis Schopp was arrested July 24 in Troy on the driving charge. According to the arresting officer’s affidavit, a metal canister containing eight 20-milligram oxycodone pills was found in Schopp’s right front pants pocket, and an envelope holding $280 in cash was in the left rear pocket. Another 22 pills were found in the car Schopp was driving, the officer reported.

According to the affidavit, Schopp told the officer his grandmother, Dorthy Schopp, had given him the pills and that he had already sold 20 of them for $300 total.
Dorthy Schopp, now living in Trout Creek, was arrested on a probation violation. The arresting officer reported that she admitted to giving 70 oxycodone pills – for which she did not have a prescription – to her grandson.

Both defendants made initial appearances before Justice of the Peace Jay Sheffield last Monday. Bail was set at $20,000 for each.

In 2007, Dorthy Schopp was charged with two counts of distribution of dangerous drugs after her granddaughter, who was 14 years old, was hospitalized for an overdose. According to court documents, Schopp admitted selling prescription pain patches containing the drug fentanyl to her grandson. Her grandchildren then smoked the drug after scraping it from the patches.

Schopp pleaded guilty in April 2008 to an amended charge of criminal endangerment and received a three-year deferred sentence.
