STOKR 2009
Scenic Tour of the Kootenai River bike ride
by Maggie Craig, LibbyMT.com
May 9, 2009
STOKR Saturday dawned clear in Libby for the start of the 2009 Scenic Tour of the Kootenai River bike ride, a fundraiser for Kootenai Valley Partners Habitat for Humanity. Nearly 400 riders took part in Saturday's ride, heading toward Troy and either taking the shorter Lake Creek loop or the 98 mile Troy/Yaak/Pipe Creek loop. Riders saw clear early morning skies in Libby, overcast in Troy, beautiful sunshine in the Yaak, and rain squalls down Pipe Creek, with snow along the road at Pipe Creek summit (this would be springtime in Montana).
Sunday's route took the riders along the Haul Road, up Highway 37 to Libby Dam, across the dam to the Visitors Center for a snack break, and down the FDR and Highway 37 back to town.
