Montanore Project Montanore Project DEIS public comment period extended Comments accepted until June 29, 2009 by Mines Management Inc May 28, 2009 The Kootenai National Forest (KNF) and the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) issued a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for public review on February 27, 2009 for the Montanore Project, a proposed copper-silver mine near Libby, Montana. The original comment period ended on May 28, 2009. At the request of the Environmental Protection Agency, the KNF and the DEQ extended the public comment period until June 29, 2009. A notice of this change in the public comment period will be published in the Federal Register on June 5, 2009. (A prior Federal Register notice on May 22, 2009 regarding the public comment period was incorrect.) All other requirements regarding submitting public comments remain the same. The public is encouraged to send written comments on the DEIS by June 29, 2009. Written comments can be submitted to one of the following Project Coordinators.
