Lee Disney, Ellen Parker Johnston, Bruce Sickler and Gary Huntsberger won seats last week on the Libby School Board while Troy voters elected Heather McDougall and Connie Hand to two seats on their school board.

Disney, Johnston and Sickler were elected to three-year terms on the Libby board; Huntsberger will fill a one-year position. Disney was the top vote-getter of five candidates running for the three-year seats with 549 votes. Johnston drew 531 and Sickler 467.

Also running for the three-year positions were Jeffrey Koskela with 432 votes and Bruce Drury with 210.

Disney and Sickler are current board members. Johnston grew up in Libby and Troy who returned to the area after a career in education and currently owns the Huckleberry House bed and breakfast.

Huntsberger, who drew 436 votes to Sarah Crace’s 375 in the race for the one-year position, served on the school board from 1997 to 2003 and is a former member of the Libby City Council.

Six candidates were on the ballot for the two seats on the Troy board. McDougall, an attorney and a 1982 graduate of Troy High School, took the most votes with 192. Connie Hand, who works as office manager for Dr. Steven Mendive and as a computer consultant and has been involved in organizations including youth soccer, 4-H, Boy Scouts and PTA, was second with 191 votes.

Also running in Troy were incumbent Ed Hanson, who finished third with 162 votes, former board member Lori Damon, who drew 150 votes, A Beauty Stoppe owner Lynette Rebo, who received 94 votes, and Troy Police Chief Mitch Walters, who received 17 votes. Walters announced prior to the election that he was withdrawing from the race and was supporting Damon instead.
