Within the next year, Libby will boast a new building on the corner of Commerce and 6th Street. The Lincoln County Credit Union’s Board of Directors announced that the Credit Union will be lining up subcontractors and breaking ground on its new home in the Spring of 2009.

The building will represent the surrounding area and offer a community room as well as a small consumer resource area with two computers and Internet access. It will also provide much needed space and more convenient access.

"We’re very excited," said Bill Bischoff, Board Chair. "We’ve outgrown our current location because local service, relevant products, and local ownership matter to community residents. Our members and the community have been a great support to us, and we wanted to reinvest in our community, so we’ve put a lot of thought into making our new building a great resource for everyone."

Lincoln County Credit Union has been providing financial services to the community residents for over 51 years. As a not-for-profit cooperative, the credit union places great value on providing financial education and being a supporting, contributing member of the community. That’s one of the reasons why the new facility was designed to include a community room; it will provide the space needed to offer quality financial education sessions.

The credit union also plans to support local stores and businesses during the construction phase. "It is LCCU’s desire and intent to hire community residents and also purchase the majority of the building supplies locally. There will only be a few exceptions that will require us to make purchases outside of our community," said President, Chari Lucas.

Boulware Construction has been selected as the general contractor for the project. LCCU will be putting the various components of the project out to bid to local pre-qualified sub-contractors in January of 2009. Before deciding to build a new facility, the credit union’s board and management worked closely with Jackola Engineering and Architecture to explore all the possible options for adding the needed space. Once the decision was made to build, LCCU then explored land options before purchasing the section of land and at the corner of Commerce and 6th Street.
