Libby Dam lowers Kootenai River flows
To assist BPA with immediate transmission line repair
December 3, 2008
Bonneville Power Administration is performing an immediate transmission line repair in Montana which is requiring immediate lowering of flows in the Kootenai River near Libby.
According to Joel Fenolio, Hydraulic engineer with the Water Management Section of the Seattle District Army Corps of Engineers, BPA requested that generation be reduced to 4 units on Tuesday, December 2, and to 3 units Wednesday and Thursday. Flow from Libby Dam was ramped down from 23,250 cfs to 19,600 cfs over a two-hour period on Tuesday.
Starting after midnight Wednesday, the flows will be ramped down from 19,600 cfs to 13,950 cfs over three hours and will be held there through Thursday, December 4, if needed.
Flows may be increased Thursday if the repairs are completed.
