Diabetes Mini Health Fair
November 23, 2008
November is National Diabetes Month, and to help the community become aware of diabetes risk factors, St. John's Lutheran Hospital held a Diabetes Mini Health Fair last Thursday. Hospital staff offered free checks of blood pressure, glucose levels, vision, and the chance to visit with Certified Diabetes Educators. A1C and flu shots were also available.
Diabetes, if not managed properly, can lead to serious complications such as heart disease, blindness, kidney damage, and lower-limb amputations. The early detection and subsequent treatment of the disease can decrease a person’s chance of developing life-threatening complications.
