Libby Police conducts Alcohol Compliance Checks
80% of Libby establishments passed the undercover buyer test
by Libby Police Department press release
September 29, 2008
On Wednesday, 24 September, 2008, the Libby Police Department conducted a number of Alcohol Compliance Checks within the City of Libby. Our "underage buyer" attempted to purchase alcohol at ten establishments. Only two establishments sold to the buyer. There was an 80% compliance rate during this compliance check. We consider this round of compliance checks as a success. The offending servers were cited and server training will be available upon request. Letters of congratulation were sent to the establishments that passed the compliance check.
Special recognition goes to Treasure Mountain Casino and owner, Mike Munro. When our "underage buyer" entered and attempted to purchase alcohol, Mr. Munro’s employee correctly identified him as underage and refused service. The server then immediately notified Mr. Munroe of the attempted underage purchase. Mr. Munro followed our buyer into the parking lot, obtained the license plate information, and made contact with the buyer and undercover officer. Mr. Munro requested the buyer’s name as to contact the police.
Mr. Munro’s response is commendable and exactly the response that is desired. Mr. Munro takes his "zero tolerance" policy seriously and is a role model to be emulated by other establishments that serve alcohol. The Libby Police Department extends a special "thanks for a job well done" to Mr. Munro and the employees of the Treasure Mountain Casino.
This round of Alcohol Compliance Checks is a part of the Libby Police Department’s Project ENFORCE. Project ENFORCE is a grant funded program to combat underage drinking in the City of Libby.
