Train derailment blocks tracks near Libby
Amtrak passengers taken by bus to Shelby

A train derailment blocked the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail line about 45 miles east of Libby around 5:30 AM on Monday morning, August 4th. Ten cars derailed on a "grainer" hauling corn on a train that originated in Minnesota destined for Tacoma, Washington. Freight train traffic was rerouted across southern Montana. Amtrak stopped in Libby and passengers were bused from Libby to Shelby.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation. No injuries were reported. The line was expected to reopen early Tuesday morning.
