Jerry Okonski has filed as a write-in candidate for County Commissioner in the November General Election.
Okonski, making good on the threat to mount a write-in campaign, had run as a Republican in the June primary, but was out run by Libby Mayor Tony Berget by 42 votes.
Okonski has to run as an independent in the General because Berget holds the Republican spot. The Republicans ran in a six candidate heat in the primary with no Democrat opposition.
Berget, who was the presumptive Commissioner after the Primary, will now have to run against Okonski. Complicating the situation is the early resignation of current Commissioner Rita Windom, who will step down effective September 30th resulting in an appointment to be made to fill her seat until at least the election, if not January 1st.
The Republican Central Committee has nominated Berget, Okonski, both candidates in November for that same seat, and Alvin Benitz, as nominees to fill Windom's seat in the interim. _________________________________________
