County Commissioner Rita Windom has announced she will resign effective September 30th.
Citing unspecified health-related concerns, Windom said the Republican Central Committee will make a recommendation for her replacement.
Windom's term expires the end of December this year. She chose not to run for reelection in this year's election.
A bevy of Republicans ran for the seat in the Primary, with Libby Mayor Tony Berget winning the nod. No Democrats filed to run in the Primary.
Berget would be the presumptive appointment since he won the Primary, is unopposed in the November General Election, and would take office January 1st.
However, second place finisher in the Republican Primary, Jerry Okonski, has said he plans to run a write-in campaign in the General Election in November. Okonski lost by 42 votes.
The filling of a vacancy on the Board of County Commissioners is specified in the Montana Code Annotated. _________________________________________
