Three recent traffic fatalities in Lincoln County

July 15, 2008

Lincoln County is having a rash of traffic fatalities so far in July. There have been three deaths in the first half of July alone.

Last week we told you about 34-year-old Luann Graves dying after rolling her vehicle on River Road. That same day at 8:45 am, a 68-year-old man from Mesa, Arizona, was killed when he struck a deer on his 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Highway 93, 10 miles south of Eureka near the Glen Lake Road turn-off. Robert Leo Miller was traveling north on Highway 93 when he struck a deer that ran into the roadway from the east side. Mr. Miller was airlifted to Kalispell Regional Hospital where he died on Friday, July 11, from injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol was not a factor in this crash and Miller was wearing a motorcycle helmet.

Then Saturday, July 12, at 4:34 pm, a 53-year-old Libby man was killed in a crash on Highway 2, 7.1 miles west of Libby. James Lee Willman from Libby was traveling east on Highway 2 pulling a load of hay on a trailer with his pick-up truck when the left front tire of his truck blew out causing him to lose control of the vehicle. His vehicle crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and struck a westbound WalMart tractor-trailer nearly head on. The semi was driven by Glenn V. Bickford, 59, from North Bend, Oregon. A passenger in Willman's vehicle, Patricia Holzer, 56, from Libby, was taken to St. John's Hospital in Libby, then airlifted to Harbor View Hospital in Washington. We do not have her condition. The driver of the semi was not injured in the crash. All occupants were wearing seatbelts and alcohol use was not a factor.
