Fire 40% Contained; Remains at 150 Acres in size

LOCATION: One-half mile southwest of Libby, Montana
START DATE: July 26, 2008
SIZE: Estimated 150 acres
CAUSE: Under Investigation
CONTAINMENT: 40%

RESOURCES:

Hand Crews: 5
Dozers: 2
Water Tenders: 4
Personnel: 95

FUELS: Recent logging slash and open timber.

WEATHER:
Temperature: Maximum 80 to 85 degrees
Humidity: Minimum 9 to 19 %.
Winds: Out of the west at 5 to 10 mph.

CLOSURES: The Hemphill Road (#8837) remains closed to public use to ensure their and fire firefighter safety. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is providing security at the road closure point.

YESTERDAY'S ACTIVITY: Crews and equipment nearly completed a preliminary containment line around the entire fire perimeter. Fire fighters installed water tanks and fire hose lays were stretched along the fireline. A night shift patrolled the fire the put out several small spots found just outside the containment line. Helicopters provided support to the ground forces with water drops on areas too hot for fire fighters.

TODAY'S ACTIONS: Crew will complete the fireline and then improve existing containment lines. They will also complete installation of fire hose lays. Two additional crews arrived from Ronan, Montana and they will start mop up of hot spots adjacent to the fireline. A Type 2 Interagency Incident Management Team from the North Idaho area, Mark Grant Incident Commander, arrived on the Kootenai National Forest. They will work along side the Kootenai team, Grant Rider Incident Commander, and transfer of command is planned for later today.

The fire danger is now VERY HIGH. Forest users are asked to use extreme caution while enjoying the outdoors.
