Those 313 write-in votes in the County Commissioner's race have been counted, and according to Leigh Riggleman, the County Election Administrator, none of the candidates even began to approach the threshold 188 write-in votes to be placed on the Democrat line on November's ballot.
Interestingly, the write-ins were very similar to the ballot results. Libby Mayor Tony Berget garnered the largest number with 78, followed by Don Cox a distant second with 44, and Jerry Okonski with 40. Bringing up the back three were Mike Munro with 19, Lee Disney with 18, and Dennis Souther with 5. The rest were random names.
Unless one of the candidates mounts a write-in campaign in the General, Tony Berget will be the next County Commissioner. The most likely candidate for a write-in campaign would be Okonski, who was only 42 votes behind Berget in the Primary.
A candidate mounting a write-in campaign has until 5pm September 26 to complete registration as a write-in on the November General Election ballot. _____________________________________ Story by KLCB 1230 AM Libby News Radio, www.todaysbestcountryonline.com
