Free motorboat validation decals required

State law requires Montana owners of motorboats, sailboats or personal watercraft to display the following on their water craft: --A permanent registration decal, and --Two free validation decals that expire every three years.
For owners of motorboats, sailboats (longer than 12 feet) and personal watercraft, initial registration or transfer of registration takes place at the county treasurer’s office. At that time you will also obtain your initial two free boating validation decals. For motorboat, sailboat (longer than 12 feet) and personal watercraft owners who have already permanently registered their vessel, please come to the FWP Regional office with your current registration receipt that was issued to you by the County Treasurer’s office to obtain your two free validation decals. The boating validation decals are also available through the FWP website; please visit the FWP website at www.fwp.mt.gov, click on “Hot Topics, Outdoor Recreation” to obtain your free boating validation decals by mail. All information entered in the database must be the same as printed on your current registration receipt.
