Three competing for Logger Days Queen

Three Libby High School juniors are vying for the title of Logger Days Queen.
Genesea Meha, Christina Shilling and Kayla White are competing for the title on criteria including school and community activities, academic standing and an essay as well as the sale of Logger Days admission buttons. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship for use at a college of her choice upon graduation from high school.
The winner will be crowned during Libby’s 50th annual Logger Days festivities, June 26-29.
Genesea Meha is the daughter of Robin Schiferl. Her school activities include National Honor Society, Prom Committee and volleyball.
Genesea’s community activities include Festival of Trees, volunteer child care and walking to raise funds for Wings Regional Cancer Support. She is a Provider Pals Ambassador and won second place in the VFW Patriot’s Pen essay contest for Lincoln County.
Her hobbies and recreational activities include volleyball, swimming, reading, photography and walking. Her employment experience includes wrapping candy at Helen’s Candies.
Genesea plans to go to school in Butte or Missoula to study aeronautical engineering or accounting.
Christina Shilling is the daughter of Chad and Linda Shilling. She maintains a 4.0 grade-point average and is Student Council’s 2009 treasurer, National Honor Society secretary and a Budget Committee member at Libby High School.
Her community activities include Wings Walk, twice-annual highway cleanup for 10 years and Rotary Youth Leadership Camp. She was a Provider Pals Ambassador to New York City in 2006.
Christina participates in soccer, where she received two letters and was named most inspirational; volleyball, where she was named most inspirational junior varsity player; and softball, where she received two letters, was named most inspirational and was selected to the All-Conference team for third base. She has been awarded Academic All-State honors four times.
Christina is a staff member of the high school newspaper and enjoys reading, writing, sports, outdoor activities, skiing, snowmobiling, camping, hiking and swimming. She has worked at Helen’s Candies and Pizza Hut and is currently a page at the county library.
Christina plans to attend Washington State University to study psychology.
Kayla White is the daughter of Boyd and Shala White. At school, she is a member of the Prom Committee, and she played volleyball as a freshman.
Kayla has been a server at the Festival of Trees since 2002, ran the softball concession stand in 2007, provides volunteer child care and is currently working to raise funds for Special Olympics. She enjoys reading, swimming, fishing, camping and four-wheeling.
Kayla’s employment experience includes working for Val and Dennis Souther Cleaning Service from August 2005 to April 2007, Mac’s Market as a filer and inventory programmer from September to December 2006, and First National Bank as a teller and proof operator from September 2006 to the present.
She plans to attend Flathead Valley Community College, North Idaho College or the University of Montana to study pharmacy. _________________________________________
