The flash of light seen by loggers in the Smokey Hollow area, south of Libby Tuesday morning between 5:30 and 6:00am was apparently a meteor streaking across the Pacific Northwest, according to the National Weather Service Forecast office in Missoula.

Reports of sighting where made in Spokane and Pendleton.

Some reports say the meteor hit near Walla Walla, but no site of impact has been located.

Stories started circulating that it was an ailing spy satellite reentering the atmosphere, being shot down by the government. That is scheduled for later in the week or next week.
