About 75 people, most from area churches, many non-city residents, packed into City Council chambers protesting the proposal of a new casino in Libby.
The new gaming establishment, proposed by Beasley Amusement, is to be located in the Libby Shopping Center in the former Ben Franklin location.
The group wants the Council to prohibit another casino in town, pointing to children having to pass by it on their way to Asa Wood Elementary School as a reason to not allow it.
There are nearly a dozen casinos operating within the Libby city limits.
The Council took the issue under advisement, with Council President Charlene LeKrone saying that while most of the Council agrees Libby does not need another casino, the Montana Code Annotated may make it impossible for the City to do anything about it.
