2008 McGregor Lake Fishing Derby

The 2008 McGregor Lake fishing derby was held February 9-10, sponsored by McGregor Lake Resort. A total of 893 participated in the derby, not quite reaching 2007's level of well over 1000. The children's division registered 28 kids ages 11 and under.
Attendance may have been affected by the ice and weather conditions during the derby. The ice was reported to be "perfect" about a week earlier, but warmer weather preceding the derby softened the ice, and rainy weather and a cold wind during the derby didn't provide ideal fishing conditions. However, the ice was still solid at 6 to 8 inches thick.
Results from derby organizers are as follows:
Mackinaw:
1st Place: Aaron Eystad - 10 lb., 8.7 oz., $2232 (25%)
2nd Place: Robin Jenks - 8 lb., 10.oz., $1786 (20%)
3rd Place: Jim Chilton - 7 lb., 12.8 oz., $1339 (15%)
4th Place: Ken Davis - 7 lb., 10.8 oz., $447 (5%)
Rainbow:
1st Place: Joe Rudolph - 7 lb., 7.6 oz., $1786 (20%)
2nd Place: Herb Shuck - 4 lb., 4 oz., $893 (10%)
3rd Place: Kathleen Meek - 4 lb., 3.2 oz., $447 (5%)
Total Winnings: $8930 (100% Payback)

Mackinaw:
Zoie Zundel - 2 lb., 15.3 oz., $60 Target gift card and a fishing pole with accessories donated by MFWP.
Ethan Carvay came in a close second with a mackinaw of 2 lb., 13.2 oz.
Rainbow:
Ryonna Vondrich - 1 lb., 15 oz., $60 Target gift card and a fishing pole with accessories donated by MFWP.
Numerous prizes, including 100% payback for the winning fish, were awarded.
