In a statement released on January 31st the State Representative from District 1, Ralph Heinert, said he has decided not to file for re-election for the upcoming 2009 session of the Montana legislature.
Heinert said, “It was a very difficult decision for us to make. Serving the people from the Libby and Troy areas has been an honor and a tremendous experience for Rita and I,” he said.
Ralph Heinert has served two terms in the Montana State House of Representatives, first being elected during the 2004 elections.
“It was a great honor to be able to represent the people from District 1,” Heinert said. “Serving the citizens of this area and the state provided an opportunity for us to meet some wonderful people and new friends. Also, learning how our state government works first hand was such an enlightening and rewarding experience. In many ways, I am sure I may well regret not attempting to seek another term, but Rita and I decided it was time to rethink our priorities and made our decision after much deliberation. I would recommend that anyone with an inclination to serve in government by all means to give it a try. It is an experience that you will never regret. The upcoming session promises to be just as challenging as the last with property taxes (new appraisals are scheduled for this year), global warming, resource development, energy, school funding and water rights issues leading the way. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those that supported me and provided input in the past.”
