Troy voters approve new Activity Center

Voters in the Troy School District very narrowly passed approval of a proposition last Tuesday to authorize the construction of a new activity center on the Morrison Elementary School campus to house a new high school varsity gymnasium, locker rooms, concession area and multi-purpose room. Included in the authorization is renovation of the science lab and auditorium at the Troy High School.

The Elementary District and the High School District each approved $900,000 for the project.

The vote on the high school district was 547 for, 521 opposed (26). On the elementary district the vote was 418 for, 388 opposed (30), both passing by 30 votes or less.

It's obviously not an overwhelming victory for the project, indicating a significant number of Troy area residents do not support the proposition to build the new building.

The vote authorized the issue and sale of $1.8 million in general obligation bonds at 7 percent per annum for not more than 15 years.
