Libby Mayor Tony Berget was involved in a work related accident Saturday, November 17. Berget was attempting to remove a pump from a well in the Yaak. The rope holding the pump broke and the rope rebounded with full force hitting Berget's right eye. Berget was transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery to determine the extent of the damage to his eye.
According to a Kalispell ophthamologist, severe blunt trauma to the right eye resulted in an irreversibly injured eye. The shell of the eye was preserved as were the muscles. An orbital implant was placed to maintain the normal shape of the eye. There is no chance for vision recovery in the right eye.
Berget was released from the hospital Sunday (November 18) afternoon and is resting at home.
