Sylvanite School to close
October 15, 2007
A 110-year tradition of education is coming to an end. The Sylvanite School will be closing. The rural school has been providing education to Yaak area elementary students since 1897. In a meeting with County Commissioners, Ron Higgins, County Superintendent of Schools, requested that the Commissioners adopt a non-operating budget for the school. The school did open in September with students, but they have since moved to the McCormick and Troy school districts. Without students, the school will be closed and the district would dissolve. The Sylvanite School District would then combine with either the Yaak, McCormick or Troy school districts.
