Rotary Club of Libby distributes dictionaries

A dictionary can help third graders in Libby improve their understanding and use of language.
That concept has become a major project for Montana and Libby Rotarians.
The Rotary Dictionary Project hopes to help over 10,000 third graders in Montana become proficient in use of the English language and improve their overall literacy. Even in a computerized world, children still need to know how to read a printed page, or text on the computer screen. Montana Rotary District 5390 has undertaken a huge project to ensure that every Montana third grader has a dictionary of their own and can benefit from improving their vocabulary.
"The goal of the Dictionary Project is to assist all students in completing the school year as good writers, active readers and creative thinkers by providing students with their own personal dictionary," according to the Dictionary Project, a non-profit organization head-quartered in Charleston, South Carolina.
The Rotary Club of Libby distributed 216 dictionaries to public and parochial schools in Lincoln County.
The cost for this project is $25,000-plus dollars statewide.
Rotary is an international service organization made up of business and professional people worldwide. The Rotary Club of Libby was chartered in 1967.
