FWP seeks comments on Bull River Wildlife Management Area/Noggle Creek land addition
Comments taken until September 7
August 10, 2007
Fish, Wildlife & Parks proposes to acquire approximately 255 acres of important wildlife habitat on Noggle Creek for $1,657,500 using Habitat Montana funds. The acquisition represents an addition to the existing Bull River Wildlife Management Area in Sanders and Lincoln Counties at the south end of Bull Lake. The project would secure valuable habitat for wide-ranging wildlife, including grizzly bears, elk, and other species dependent on the wetlands and forest. The project would also maintain public access to the project area for recreational uses.
According to FWP Regional Wildlife Program Manager Jim Williams, “Revett Minerals, Plum Creek Timber Company, and The Conservation Fund made this habitat conservation project possible.” Williams adds, “Revett, who owns and operates the existing Troy Mine and the proposed Rock Creek Mine, has already funded a Libby-based FWP grizzly bear specialist, and now they are helping to conserve important grizzly bear habitat in the Cabinet Mountains.”
The draft is out for a 4-week public review through Friday, September 7, 2007. A public hearing for the project is scheduled for Wednesday, September 5, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. at the Kootenai Senior Citizens Center, 304 3rd Street in Troy, Montana.
