Huntsberger withdraws offer to buy Historic Libby High School
July 26, 2007
Gary Huntsberger has withdrawn his offer to buy the Historic Libby High School.
Huntsberger had offered the school $160,000 for the downtown icon. According to Kirby Maki, Superintendent of Libby Public Schools, Huntsberger had issues with the current wording of the Buy/Sell agreement. Maki did not indicate what those issues were.
Huntsberger had filed an action in 19th District court to prohibit the sale of the historic structure, while at the same time having an offer to buy it on the table. Huntsberger has been a proponent of demolition of the structure. The Court decided in the favor of the School's right to sell the building.
Developer Bryan Scott, of the Flathead Financial Group, had been negotiating the purchase of the building to re-develop into 12 to 14 office suites, when Huntsberger filed the court action.
Scott, in the meantime while Huntsberger had the high school sale tied up in court, purchased the Kalispell Outlaw Inn with plans to renovate it. Scott had offered the schools $128, 000. The schools were asking $150,000. Scott has not responded to the latest Buy/Sell agreement.
According to Maki, yet another player has emerged, a local contractor by the name of Hollingsworth. Maki said Hollingsworth has contacted Maki for more information and is interested in purchasing the property.
The development company of ConoverBond from Spokane had shown considerable interest in the building, but stepped aside for issues not related to the project, allowing Bryan Scott to step in.
The Schools are under no obligation to sell the property, and the Board has indicated it desires to sell the building to someone willing to renovate it.
