American Cancer Society Relay for Life
Asa Wood School: August 3-4
July 22, 2007
Do you want to have a good time and help out a great cause? Then come to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life! The event starts Friday, August 3rd and runs till Saturday, August 4th at Asa Wood School here in Libby. This promises to be a party you won’t want to miss! Everything begins with the Opening Ceremony at 6pm Friday, at which time there will be a Survivors' Lap around the walking track, followed by the introduction of the teams. A Survivors' reception follows the Survivors’ Lap. Participating in the Relay will be over 20 local teams, and each team is committed to keeping one member of the team walking on the track all night long! After the introduction, the walking begins in earnest, and so does the fun.
First up on the stage is the Back Adit Band with their brand of eclectic folk jazz, followed by the C.A.P. Band from Kalispell and then Gypsy Birthright playing original contemporary rock. In between the bands, Kevin Puckett from the Montana Wonder Theater will be performing feats of magic on stage!
Then, at the Luminaria Ceremony at 10pm, the luminarias will be lit. They will be lining the track, and on each luminaria will be the name of either a cancer survivor or the name of someone who lost their battle to the disease. As the lighting is underway, the names will be read aloud, in a solemn ceremony honoring those who have fought the good fight. Luminarias can be purchased for $5 from Glacier Bank as well as other local businesses, and can be purchased at the event right up till 6pm. The celebration of life then continues, with “Sing with Rich” karaoke from 11pm till midnight. Also there be a movie later in the night, and lots of other fun things to do, including raffles for a variety of items donated by local individuals and businesses. Raffle items include a pair of round trip tickets from Big Sky Air, a twin size flannel "moose" quilt made by Sue Bee's Quilting, and a half-ton of pellets from HooDoo Mountain Pellets, and raffle tickets are available at Glacier Bank, Shoestring Video, and Sue Bee's Quilting. To fuel everybody’s feet for the long walk, a spaghetti dinner will be served by Benke’s Italian Garden from 6 to 9pm, and the public as well as the walkers are invited to join the feast! The meal is $8 and includes spaghetti, breadstick, corn and a beverage. Other great food and drink will be available as well.
So come join the fun, come join the fight. Participating in the Relay is a great way of honoring loved ones who have lost the battle, and a great way to support those fighting cancer today. The American Cancer Society has made amazing progress in the fight against cancer, and won’t stop till they have won the battle and the war. This is an opportunity for everybody to come together to work for a better tomorrow.
Again, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life is Friday August 3rd, starting at 6pm at Asa Wood School. If you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to call Diane Rewerts at 293-9105.
