Wood Pile Fire
Fire danger increasing
June 25, 2007
Libby firefighters quickly responded to this fire in a wood pile at a residence in Libby on Monday evening, bringing it under control. Fire danger is currently rated as Moderate on the Kootenai National Forest. Wildfires are picking up across the nation as summer hot, dry conditions continue. The last wildfire on the Kootenai was accidentally caused by road construction crews doing work on Highway 2 last week. That fire reached 2 acres before being suppressed, an indication of the current dry conditions in the woods. The public is asked to be extremely careful with campfires and cigarettes, and reminded that fireworks are prohibited year-round on the Kootenai National Forest. Photo by Karen Kemmerer.
