Hunters, listen up! You could make a dream hunt a reality by simply purchasing a $5 SuperTag lottery chance in their name. In last year's drawing, three of the five winners of big game hunts purchased only one SuperTag chance.
FWPs' new SuperTag hunting license lottery debuted last year to rave reviews from big game hunters. A $5 chance offers the winner the opportunity to hunt a moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, elk or deer in any hunting district in Montana, including Montana's legendary trophy districts. Later in 2007, three new hunts may be added—for mountain lion, antelope and bison.
The usual cost for applying for one of Montana's special big-game permit drawings is $80 each for a resident and $755 each for a non-resident.
The SuperTag offers hunters a chance to win one or more of these coveted big game hunting licenses for $5, and an unlimited number of chances may be purchased. No additional fees are required of SuperTag license winners.
And, there is more. Hunters are winners, whether they win a SuperTag or not. That's because SuperTag lottery proceeds go to enhance hunting access and boost FWP enforcement efforts, both of which benefit hunters. In its first year, the SuperTag raised $325,000 and sold 65,000 chances.
To purchase a SuperTag, you'll need a 2007 conservation license, a prerequisite license that many outdoorsmen and -women purchase early in the year. Then just visit an FWP office or FWP license provider's establishment, or go online at fwp.mt.gov and use FWP's online licensing service.
July 5 is the deadline for purchsing the moose, sheep and goat SuperTags. Chances for the deer and elk SuperTags must be purchased by Aug. 2. The moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goat SuperTags will be drawn in mid-July and deer and elk licenses will be drawn in mid-August.
If a hunter wins a SuperTag and also draws a license or permit through FWP’s special permit license drawings, the hunter will be required to surrender that license or permit before receiving the SuperTag. FWP will refund the license fee associated with the special permit or license and reinstate any bonus points.
