St. John's welcomes first baby of 2007
January 15, 2007
The employees and staff at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital welcomed Dayton William Lester Johnson, the first baby of 2007. After days of anticipation by both his family and the staff at St. John’s, Dayton made his entrance on 1/11/07 at 8:37am. Inspired by a vision of the late Roger Morris, St. John’s set out to make the New Year’s Baby a community celebration. “Roger believed that it truly does take a village to raise a child and began planning a New Year’s Baby Celebration with me in January 2006,” reminisced KC Hoyer, Marketing Manager at St. John’s. “He really wanted to make this a special occasion, and while we always celebrated the New Year’s Baby in fine style here at St. John’s, we set out to make this an even bigger community celebration--one I hope grows in popularity and participation.” Along with St. John’s, who provided the new parents with cases of formula and diapers, other area businesses and individuals joined in and provided gifts for the new family. Pamida generously donated a stroller, while Libby Drug provided baby picture frames. A friend of the St. John’s Lutheran Hospital Foundation, Margaret Smith, donated hand made receiving and baby blankets and Space Labs, a friend of the hospital, donated a $100 Pamida gift certificate. Dayton’s arrival set a record at St. John’s for the latest New Year’s baby in the past ten years or possibly longer. “We found out earlier in the week that we might be the first ones, but we didn’t think we would make it because it was already the 8th of January,” commented Guy Johnson, Dayton’s father. “We were really surprised and grateful for the gifts.”
Approximately 100 babies are delivered annually at St. John’s. “We pride ourselves in our Obstetric services,” commented Jackie Hare, VP Nursing Services at St. John’s. “We offer our moms the best possible care including state-of–the-art OB equipment, trained and certified OB nurses, newborn care instruction; all the services a mom should expect for her delivery. We also offer the kind of care and compassion that sends our new families home confident in the care they received and in their impending parenthood.”
