David Thompson Search and Rescue hosted the first Backcountry Wildman triathlon held in Libby on Saturday, August 12. Fourteen individuals and eight teams entered the triathlon/biathlon, taking participants up McKay and Great Northern Mountains and for a swim in Howard Lake. And that's after biking to get there from town. The winner of the event, in his first-ever race, was Kyle Forbes (sponsored by "Team Forbes") of Libby, with a time of 8 hours, 2 minutes, 10 seconds. Second-place finisher was Tad Wuertz (sponsored by Big City Velo) from San Diego, California, with a time of 8 hours, 13 minutes, 35 seconds. Third was Genny Hoyle (8.23.2) and fourth was Shana Bernall (8.32.53). Coming in first for team finishers was Greg Rice (8.37.55).
