Backcountry Wildman The Cabinet Mountains provided the backdrop for the Backcountry Wildman triathlon held in Libby on August 12. Backcountry Wildman Hosted by David Thompson Search and Rescue by Maggie Craig August 12, 2006 David Thompson Search and Rescue hosted the first Backcountry Wildman triathlon held in Libby on Saturday, August 12. Fourteen individuals and eight teams entered the triathlon/biathlon, taking participants up McKay and Great Northern Mountains and for a swim in Howard Lake. And that's after biking to get there from town. The winner of the event, in his first-ever race, was Kyle Forbes (sponsored by "Team Forbes") of Libby, with a time of 8 hours, 2 minutes, 10 seconds. Second-place finisher was Tad Wuertz (sponsored by Big City Velo) from San Diego, California, with a time of 8 hours, 13 minutes, 35 seconds. Third was Genny Hoyle (8.23.2) and fourth was Shana Bernall (8.32.53). Coming in first for team finishers was Greg Rice (8.37.55).
