More great fun ‘cooking’ at the Museum
Feast Your Eyes
July 25, 2006
The Heritage Museum is hosting three exhibits in conjunction with Key Ingredients: America by Food. “Montana by Food”—which celebrates the Treasure State’s unique culinary traditions—was cooked up by Montana’s Museum at the Montana Historical Society together with the Montana Committee for the Humanities.
The exhibit was designed to accompany Key Ingredients: America by Food, a national traveling exhibit that was developed by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, and is being sponsored across the state by the MCH. Montana by Food serves up varied helpings of this all-important topic, including food production, distribution, preparation, service, and consumption. It examines the “what and why” of the eating habits of former generations of Montanans while illustrating how things have changed over the years, and how they haven’t.
Key Ingredients: America by Food and Montana by Food can be seen at the Heritage Museum, 1367 Highway 2 South, through August 26. Museum hours are Monday-Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 1-5. “Feast Your Eyes” is the title given to the changing exhibit in the Tower Gallery of the museum. For the month of July it is quilts made by the Kootenai Valley Quilt Guild and it is truly a beautiful display. Some say it is the most attractive arrangement of quilts ever displayed at the museum – a definite must-see.
Due to space limitations in the museum, the Libby Branch of the Lincoln County Library is co-hosting a unique art exhibit. Libby High School art students from Mrs. Kallay’s class designed pâpier maché meals. Everything from a school cafeteria lunch to Chinese take-out to Sunday dinner at Grandma’s house is represented in these clever sculptures. This exhibit can be seen throughout the library on both levels through September 10. The library, located at 220 West 6th Street, is open Monday-Friday 9:30-6 and Saturday 9:30-3.
