Libby Logger Days June 22-24
Fun for all ages! Logging events, entertainment, music, prizes
June 20, 2006
(Libby) The 2006 Libby Logger Days will be held Thursday through Saturday, June 22-24th. The event is sponsored by the Kootenai Kiwanis. Festivities will include the annual favorites of the traditional water fight (using fire hoses!), logging events, Bull of the Woods, a street dance and musical entertainment. There will also be a melodrama, The Veggie Villain, with performances on Thursday and Friday (admission $9/person).
Entertainment for the kids includes jousting, a bungee run, dart throw, basketball toss, a bounce house, slide, duck pond, dinosaur dig, snake pit and more! Kids can win prizes at the amusement events.
Logger Days starts out on Thursday evening with the very popular water fights. These will take place on Mineral Avenue and pit teams against Libby firefighters. Similar to a version of tug of war, the water fight has teams facing each other using full-force fire hose blasts aiming at a sliding keg that is suspended on an overhead wire. The team that pushes the keg across their opponent’s line marked on the pavement wins! There will be competitions for juniors and adults. Spectators, be sure to be prepared for some overspray dousing, which will feel great if the usual hot weather holds true for the event.
The main events will take place on Saturday, June 24. The day starts at 10:00 am with the Logger Days Parade. Adult logging events start at 2:00 pm and include the PeeVee Log Roll, Axe Throw, Men’s Single Buck, Donut Stacking, Ma & Pa Relay (using a wheel barrow!), Jack & Jill Double Buck and more.
Most of the events and entertainment will be at or near the Memorial Center in downtown Libby. There will be food booths and merchant displays throughout Logger Days. An area will also be set aside for the Beer Garden Friday afternoon and Saturday. On Thursday, the Farmers Market will be set up from 4:00-6:00 pm.
The Lip Sync Contest will be on Friday evening at approximately 8:30 pm. The Cabinet Mountain Chevy $500 Giveaway will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday.
The Hamilton Players will present "Always Patsy Cline" on Saturday evening after the logging events. That will be followed by the Melodrama, "The Veggie Villain", which has a $9 admission cost.
Admission to Logger Days requires a Logger Days Button which costs $4.00 in advance or $5.00 at the gate. Buttons allow entrance to all festivities except the Melodrama.
