The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began spilling water from Libby Dam Thursday afternoon for flood control, increasing the spill on Friday (shown). As of Friday evening, the discharge was 38,000 cfs with an inflow to the reservoir of 43,800 cfs. Full powerhouse capacity is 24,200 cfs. The spill is necessary to accommodate higher than expected runoff out of Canada, due to high snowpack and wet weather. The reservoir currently is about three feet from full pool, and the situation is being monitored closely.
