Flood Watch for Yaak River
Expected to reach flood stage by Thursday morning

7:19 PM, 5/17/06 Update: The latest report has the Yaak River near Troy at 7.2 feet at 4 PM Wednesday. Flood stage is 8.0 feet. Minor flooding is possible with a maximum stage of 8.4 feet forecast around 12:00 PM Saturday, which is 0.4 feet above flood stage. The stage may rise above flood stage of 8.0 feet around 9:00 AM Friday. The current forecast has the stage falling below flood stage around 12:00 pm Monday. -----------------------------------------
The National Weather Service out of Missoula has issued a flood watch for the Yaak River in northern Lincoln County. Record high temperatures are melting mountain snow pack. Record highs are expected to continue through the week causing snow melt runoff to continue to bring streams and river levels to near bank-full levels.
The Yaak River near Troy was at 7.2 feet at 8:00 am on Wednesday morning. Flood stage is 8.0 feet. The river is expected to reach flood stage by early Thursday morning and may exceed flood stage late Thursday night.
The Bitterroot River near Darby is also under a flood watch. It was at 6.1 feet at 11:00 am Wednesday morning. Flood stage is 11.0 feet. It is expected to approach flood stage by early Wednesday afternoon and may exceed flood stage early Thursday morning.
