Troy to host Disc Golf Tourney June 17
Hope for it to become an annual event
April 30, 2006

On Saturday, June 17, the community of Troy will be hosting the 1st annual Troy Professional/Amateur Regional Disc Golf Tournament. Disc golf is played on a course, similar to regular golf, with the object being to throw a disc into an elevated metal basket in the least amount of throws as possible. The disc is similar to a Frisbee. Baskets are an average of 220 feet apart. Seventeen are par 3 and one is par 4.

The event will be held at the 21-acre Troy Timber Beast Disc Golf Park behind the Troy Museum, along Callaghan Creek. Organizers expect up to 100 players from amateurs to professionals. Prize money will be awarded. Competition starts at 10 am.

There will be seven divisions in the tourney, ranging from professional to amateur, women to juniors. Entry fee is $40 for professionals, $10 for amateurs. An alcohol and tobacco-free concert and awards ceremony will be held at Troy Roosevelt Park in the evening after the tournament. Evening "long-arm" competition to try to throw a disc 420 feet across the Kootenai River. Discs that don’t make it will be retrieved by people in kayaks on the river. The evening concert is free to tournament participants, $5 for others. For more info, contact Ralph Sever, 406-295-3016.
