Turner Ski Lodge Dedication Feb. 18
Dedication and Open House for new ski lodge!
February 14, 2006
Turner Mountain Ski Area invites the public to join them for the dedication of the new lodge on Saturday, February 18th, at 11:00 am. The new lodge is the culmination of years of hard work by members of Kootenai Winter Sports (KWS) and many dedicated volunteers.
Funding for the new lodge was received from the City of Libby Economic Development Fund. The 4,000 square foot, two-level lodge has food services and dining room on the main floor. First aid facilities and a rental shop are on the bottom level. Work to build the lodge was done mostly by volunteers.
In 2002, KWS installed a new chairlift replacing the 5,600 foot T-Bar.
Turner will also hold their Skier Appreciation Day on President’s Day, Monday, February 20th. All kids 18 years of age and under ski FREE! Adults will be half price, $13.
Turner is known for being “steep, deep and cheap” It is located 22 miles north of Libby on the Pipe Creek Road. The ski area has 20 runs, 70% of which are Black Diamond, making this a favorite for those who love the thrill of steep terrain and deep snow. Only 10% of the runs fall in the beginner category.
The area typically gets very deep snowfall, however a drought affecting the western United States for the past several years hit Turner hard the past several seasons. This year, Turner is 100% open with 79 inches snow depth at the summit and 39 inches at the base, as of Valentine’s Day, February 14th.
The mountain is open from Friday through Sunday for the 2005-2006 ski season. Snowboarders are welcome. Cost for a full-day adult lift ticket is $26. Juniors and Seniors is $21 for a full day. Kids 6 and under ski free. Half-day lift ticket is $21 for adults and $16 for Juniors/Seniors. Lifts run from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. The season typically runs from the end of December until the beginning of April. Turner is also available for private use by reservation. Note, there is no telephone service, electricity or running water at the ski area.
