Libby Swimming Pool Bond Election
Voters to decide on a new $2.8 million aquatic center
November 8, 2005
Lincoln County is holding an election to decide the topic of whether or not Libby should get a new swimming pool. Voters will decide whether to approve or reject a $2.8 million bond issue and $275,000 annual maintenance levy for the Libby Aquatic Center swimming pool complex.
The pool project is for a six-lane covered lap pool, a main outdoor pool, and a play/splash area specifically designed for kids. As a public pool, it will be used by the general public and local clubs and organizations for regularly scheduled events, lessons, therapy and general swim time.
The new pool complex would be operated and maintained by the Libby Parks District, funded through the new bond levy. The Libby school district supports the new aquatic center, but there will be no legal ties to the building or maintenance of the pool on the part of the school district. The pool will be run by the Libby Park District through a Board of Directors.
Ballots were mailed out on October 21st to qualified electors of the Libby Park District (School District No. 4 boundaries). Registered voters will cast their voice for the Libby Park District Pool Bond and Maintenance Levy. The election is being conducted strictly as a mail ballot election. Ballots must be returned to the Lincoln County Clerk & Recorder by Tuesday, November 15th, when they will be counted and the vote results announced.
