An institution unto herself, Janet Kendall ("Miss Kendall" to hundreds of students) is retiring after 39 years of dedicated teaching service. She has decided that it is, quite simply, time to end her remarkable teaching career and embark on a new chapter of her life.
After graduating from Western Washington University in the spring of 1966, Miss Kendall started teaching in Whitefish that fall, spending one year there followed by two years at Pleasant Valley. In 1969 she landed at McGrade School, where she spent the next 34 years of her career. She has taught two generations of students, still remembering those from her early days at McGrade, and now teaching their children. When McGrade closed its doors in 2003, a piece of her heart closed with those doors as well. McGrade was a special, enormously important place for her, her "home away from home" for many years.
Following the closure of McGrade, she spent the last two years of her career at Asa Wood School. The location of her classroom may have changed, but her dedication to her students followed her everywhere.
From those who have benefited from and appreciated your passion for teaching, your help, your encouragement, your dedication and your countless hours of volunteered time, we say, "Thank you, Miss Kendall. Good luck and Godspeed."
