Black bear season closes May 15
May 3, 2005
Black bear hunting season closes May 15 in some 100 and 200 series bear management areas in Western Montana, reminds Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials. Hunting in other bear management units closes May 31 or June 15. Black bear hunting closes earlier when quotas are met in management units with quotas. Black bear hunters are responsible for contacting the regional FWP office before hunting to learn if bear managements quotas have been met. For details check the 2005 black bear big game hunting regulations available at all FWP offices and license providers, or on the FWP web site at fwp.mt.gov under Hunting.
Spring black bear hunters must be certified by taking the Montana Bear Identification Test. Bear hunters can refresh their bear identification skills at any time by going to fwp.mt.us and clicking on Education and then Hunter Education.
