5-Year EPA Libby Groundwater Review
Report available
April 4, 2005
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is conducting a 5-year review on the Libby Groundwater Superfund Site, according to a news release by the EPA. The review will address the status of the cleanup at the site and the laws that apply to the cleanup.
The 5-year review is a regular EPA checkup on a Superfund site to make sure cleanup decisions continue to protect people and the environment. This will be the third, 5-year review for the Libby site.
The Libby Groundwater Site is located on the southern portion of the former Stimson Mill and includes soil and groundwater treatment units that were constructed to remove contamination from former wood treatment operations. The performance of the treatment systems will be evaluated during the review.
A report containing the results of the review will be available this month. This report is a public document. Interested individuals can view a copy by visiting the site Information Repository (IR) at the Lincoln County Department of Environmental Health (LCDEH) in the Lincoln County Annex at 418 Mineral Avenue or at the EPA Information Center at 501 Mineral Avenue in Libby.
