Spring Black Bear applications due April 14
March 7, 2005
Black bear hunters are reminded that license applications must be in to Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks and postmarked on or before April 14, or licenses may be purchased by that date from an FWP license provider or the FWP web site at fwp.mt.gov. Black bear hunting licenses purchased after April 14 cannot be used until the fall black bear hunting season. Hunters may hold only one black bear license per license year.
Black bear hunters are also required to have successfully completed a bear identification test before obtaining a Montana black bear hunting license. The identification program is intended to prevent mistaken killings of grizzly bears and to help Montana maintain its black bear hunting season. The test is available on the FWP web site under Education and click on Bear ID Test under Hot Topics.
The spring black bear season opens April 15 and closes in May or June depending on the area. Check the black bear hunting regulations for details.
