SJ26 Moves to House
February 26, 2005
Montana lawmakers approved Senate Joint Bill 26 on the 3rd reading during the 2005 Montana legislature session on February 23rd. The bill is a joint resolution between the House of Representatives of Montana urging support for creating a center for the study and treatment of asbestos-related illness and for providing relief for the victims of asbestos exposure in Libby. The bill was approved by a vote of 49 "Yes", to 1 "No", during Wednesday’s session.
Under SJ 26, the Legislature formally reaffirms the request made in 2003 to Montana’s Congressional Delegation to take action in creating the CARD to create illnesses related to tremolite-serious asbestos. It also requests special consideration be extended to litigants who have been exposed to tremolite-fiber asbestos.
Primary sponsor for this bill is Montana Republican Senator Aubyn Curtiss, from Fortine, Montana. The bill has been transmitted to the House for amendments and voting on April 5th.
