Libby Chainsaw Event
July 12, 2019
Ron Adamson hosted his second annual "The Libby Chainsaw Event" over 4th of July weekend, July 4-7, at the Central School. Six carvers spent the weekend producing their chainsaw-carved pieces. Their main pieces were presented for auction Sunday afternoon with quick carves available for auction throughout the weekend.
Though not entirely a competition, three local judges (Todd Berget, Christi Elwood and Ivan Hagen) gave their critiques to the carvers. First place was awarded to Michael Arnold Penny from Fernie, B.C. with his outstanding fishing bear cub. Second place went to Jeff Adamson of Libby for his "Spirit of the Woods" carving and Vinko Bogdanoski took third place for his two-eagle sculpture. Carly Jean Wallace participated in her first carving event with an owl sculpture, and Alex Hickey, of Fernie, though not technically referred to as a participating carver, produced a beautiful Welcome sign. Ron Adamson excused himself from the judging.
Several vendors occupied the lawn next to the Memorial Center, and Kootenai Pets for Life was on hand with information about available pets for adoption. Evening entertainment including music and a fire poi demonstration rounded out the weekend.
Ron is proud of the timber-producing heritage of Libby and is proud to sponsor a local carving event reflecting that heritage.
