Polar Bear Plunge
For Breast Cancer Awareness
March 14, 2018
Ten people took the plunge Sunday, March 11, at Libby Creek to benefit breast cancer awareness. Organized and hosted by Amber Hargrove and assisted by Polar Bear Rick Klin, the plunge was organized as a way to raise funds for Michelle's Place Breast Cancer Resource Center for breast cancer victims and their families. Amber's inspiration was to honor her aunt who has battled the disease.
On a beautiful, sunny day with an air temperature of 41° and a water temperature of 38°, the plunge was not for the faint-of-heart. Polar Bear regulars Rick Klin and Steve Sonju were on hand to assist Amber and the other hardy souls willing to take the frigid plunge.
Conquering the fear of taking a cold-water plunge is part of the process, but doing it for a good cause seems to help with motivation. A shared sense of purpose got each participant into the creek, one-by-one, for a unique way to raise funds and honor those we know and love who battle breast cancer.
